Owls are classified as Strigiformes . They are birds of prey. The horned owl is a common owl, you can recognize it because it has large ear tufts. The great horned owl can reach 25 inches long with a 5 foot wingspan. The owl has great hearing and can find prey (Mice and other rodents) under 2 feet of snow. The eyes of an owl are stationary meaning they don’t move so the owl has to move its head as far as 270 degrees. Owl eggs are white and baby owls are vulnerable meaning they are prey to other predators. Owls can live up to 30 years in captivity.
